Elden Ring to Support Raytracing, Run at 60fps on PC

November 8, 2021 by Carley Garcia

It’s going to look pretty shiny.

Last Thursday, the gaming community got an extensive look at what Elden Ring will bring to the table in February 2022. In fifteen minutes of gameplay footage, the world of the Lands Between looked as smooth as butter, with battles and exploration seeming almost too gorgeous to be playable. Now, ahead of the game’s closed network test, Bandai Namco has unveiled some of the game’s specs on their website. Elden Ring will run at “up to” 60 frames-per-second on the PC with a maximum resolution of 4K, though the title will support HDR. Raytracing has also been announced, though it will be coming via patch–whether that’s a launch patch or one coming later has yet to be revealed. The game will also have a 60fps performance mode on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

While it’s unclear what PC specs will be necessary to adequately run Elden Ring, those with higher-end setups may be desperate to push their graphics over the edge. Of course, a post-launch mod to uncap the frame rate is inevitable.

The game will take place in the realm of the Lands Between. The story will begin sometime after the destruction of the titular Elden Ring and the scattering of its shards called the Great Runes. Though once protected by the Ring and the Erdtree, the realm is now ruled by the demigod offspring of Queen Marika the Eternal, each corrupted by shards of the Ring. As a Tarnished–an exile from the Lands Between who lost the Ring’s grace–summoned back after this great Shattering, players will traverse the lands to find the Great Runes, restore the Elden Ring, and become the Elden Lord. Players will be able to choose from five classes: warrior, enchanted knight, prophet, champion, and bloody wolf. Each is available in two body types.

Elden Ring is now scheduled to release on February 25, 2022, and will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A closed network test is scheduled to take place from November 12 until November 15. Invitations for the test will be sent out in the next few days, so keep an eye on your inbox.
