PlayStation 5 Getting Five Uniquely Colored Covers in 2022

December 13, 2021 by Carley Garcia

New DualSense colors are coming too.

The PlayStation 5 has been divisive since its release, and not only because of how difficult it can be to snag one from the hands of scalpers. While its curious white design has been well-received by many, some players are aiming for something more sleek and classic; others, more loud and bright. Sony is finally responding to these numerous requests over a year after the console’s launch. With over 13 million units being sold to date, plenty of users have discovered that the PS5 faceplate can be removed very easily, pointing towards the possibility of new plates being available in the future. Today, PlayStation has announced its Galaxy Collection, composed of five unique colored shells to help transform the console into something more in line with unique player styles.

Think that’s nice enough? Try a few more DualSense controllers to match.

The collection will feature five colors for the console itself: Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple are new, while Midnight Black and Cosmic Red DualSense controllers were released earlier this year. Now, your PlayStation 5 can finally match!

There is no specific date listed for the Galaxy Collection, but PlayStation has revealed that they will be available sometime in 2022. According to the official PlayStation online store, the black and red covers will be available on January 14, 2022, although this may be a placeholder–the other three colors don’t yet have dates listed. The three new DualSense controllers are also listed as launching on January 14.

Those desperate for non-white covers for their PlayStation 5s have taken to buying unofficial plates, many from Dbrand. The company was threatened by Sony earlier this year, to which the brand responded by changing the design of their covers and taunting the media giant to sue. Why they thought this was a good idea is anyone’s guess, but now that Sony is ready to meet player demand, it will be interesting to see what’s in the future for Dbrand.
