The Witcher 3 Gets Nvidia Ready Drivers, GameWorks Comparison

May 18, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

Check out what GameWorks does for The Witcher 3.

Nvidia has released their Game Ready drivers for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which releases tomorrow. The drivers are optimized specially for the game and bring with them performance improvements for Nvidia-specific features, including Nvidia GameWorks–a feature that's recommended to be disabled unless you have a powerful graphics card (such as a GTX 980) on 1080p.

In addition to the drivers, the company has put out a video showcasing what all this GameWorks stuff looks like in-game. For the most part, it makes it so that Geralt's hair and the fur of every monster you encounter appears realistically, and is affected by the movement of the character models.

CD Projekt Red recommends that players running AMD graphics cards keep the GameWorks option disabled. Although the game can run and display GameWorks technologies, performance is severely impacted by turning it on unless you're running an Nvidia graphics card.

"Many of you have asked us if AMD Radeon GPUs would be able to run NVIDIA’s HairWorks technology," wrote CD Projekt Red's Marcin Momot on the game's official forums. "the answer is yes! However, unsatisfactory performance may be experienced as the code of this feature cannot be optimized for AMD products. Radeon users are encouraged to disable NVIDIA HairWorks if the performance is below expectations."
