If rumors are correct, Rockstar could be going all-in on remasters over the next couple of years. Known leaker, RalphsValve on Twitter has said that a GTA IV remaster will be here in 2023. RalphsValve has been corroborated on other leaks in the past, particularly on Call of Duty and the rumored multiplayer remaster of Modern Warfare 2.
RalphsValve tweeted a picture of the GTA IV logo with the caption “2023”. He then went on to say that the remaster would be coming to PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. He also said that the remaster would come bundled with the Episodes from Liberty City expansions that were released for the original game post-launch. Finally and perhaps most interestingly, RalphsValve said that there will be no multiplayer included with the remaster. GTA IV was the first Grand Theft Auto game to include multiplayer and it’s the foundation for what GTA Online became in GTA V.
On the one hand, it makes sense that Rockstar wouldn’t want to take players away from GTA Online. On the other, there are likely plenty of players who would love to dive back into GTA IV‘s multiplayer. The multiplayer was very well received when the game was originally released and it offers an experience that many who don’t like GTA Online in GTA V would prefer.
The rumor of the GTA IV remaster coming in 2023 comes on the back of other recent rumors that a Red Dead Redemption remaster is in the works. The GTA Trilogy remaster was also leaked prior to its announcement. If these rumors pan out, it looks like Rockstar may be focused on remasters for the foreseeable future. Anyone who is eagerly anticipating GTA 6 might want to temper those expectations. Either way, these remastered games will probably sell like hotcakes.
