A remaster of Red Dead Redemption is reportedly in development. The info comes from reliable Rockstar leaker Chris Klippel of Rockstar Mag. During a Q&A session, Chris claimed that Rockstar is working on a Red Dead remaster that will be in a similar vein to the upcoming GTA Trilogy remaster. That’s to say, not just a resolution bump.
Hopes of a Red Dead Redemption remaster from Rockstar have been circling the internet for a few years now. The success of Red Dead Redemption 2 has had players clamoring for more Red Dead. While a remaster wouldn’t be more Red Dead, it would give many players who missed out on the first one a chance to experience the revolutionary game.
The claim that Red Dead Redemption is being remastered comes after a string of remasters from Rockstar. The company revealed that GTA V would be remastered for next-gen consoles last summer. That announcement drew a mixture of excitement and ire from fans. GTA V still being incredibly popular meant that many fans were excited about the prospect of playing the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Meanwhile, fans of the non-GTA Online portion of GTA V were disappointed that Rockstar isn’t announcing new games.
The GTA Trilogy remaster was announced last month and gained the same kind of mixed excitement/criticism from different parts of the GTA fanbase. Although a Red Dead remaster will be welcomed by many fans, it will no doubt receive the same type of mixed reception as the other recent Rockstar remasters.
There’s no word on when fans may be able to expect a Red Dead Redemption remaster, only that it probably won’t be releasing anytime soon. If the Red Dead remaster is announced, players can likely expect to see the game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and, hopefully, for the first time PC.
