H1Z1 has been in early access since January 15, 2015. Many development studios tend to leave their game in this stage of creation for a long time, because it seems to attract users that feel some sense of exclusivity by being able to access the title before everyone else. It's a bit of a quandary though, because almost everyone can play the game if they have a Steam account with which to download it. In this way, H1Z1 might as well be released already. The only people that are truly left out are Playstation 4 owners, who will have to wait for an official release date.
Daybreak Game Company develops H1Z1 and CEO John Smedley recently took to Twitter, revealing some upcoming additions to the game. Specifically, Daybreak is bringing female avatars to H1Z1. Well, all we can say is that it's about time.
Here's the tweet:
hoping to get the female model into H1Z1 in the next 2 weeks. trying for late next week.

In all seriousness, we're happy to see Daybreak bring female characters to the mix.
