Bethesda has announced that The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited will feature a 15GB day one patch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when the MMO releases on June 9th.
The game appears to be so large it completely fills a standard 50GB Blu-ray disc and, with the patch, comes in at 65GB total. On The Elder Scrolls Online website, Bethesda commented:
"We're sure everyone is interested to know the size of the game client in order to get your hard drives ready. ESOTU is an incredibly massive game, both in terms of sheer scope and the data required to bring you this truly enormous experience. At the moment, the client will exceed a 50GB Blu-ray disc which means there will also be a large day-one patch that is somewhere in the region of 15GB."
That's a pretty massive patch, especially for those with limited data caps for downloads or slow connection speeds, and if you're planning to download the entire game you'll be waiting quite some time to get it all on your system. Given the game's connected nature, you will have to download the patch in order to play.
With the standard PS4 and Xbox One HDD limited to 500GB we can hope Sony and Microsoft will announce 1TB or larger consoles at E3 on June 15th.
A closed beta for The Elder Scrolls Online begins tomorrow on PS4 and Xbox One and invites were sent out to selected players earlier today.
While the game no longer requires a subscription, you will need to buy a copy when it's released in June.
