Age of Empires 2: HD developer Forgotten Empires has revealed that the game's recently announced upcoming expanion – which has not yet been titled – will focus on Africa and add new playable factions from the continent, as well as nations which had a significant impact there.
The first revealed civilisation is the Berbers, which Forgotten Empires describes as a great power "that has been requested many, many, many times by the fans".
Fan of the original game may remember the El Cid campaign in The Conquerors expansion, which featured the Berbers as Saracens but the developer says, "Berbers, however, are more than worthy of becoming an Age of Empires civilization. With dynasties across Northern Africa, the ancient Berbers will primarily be a Cavalry & Naval civilization. They’ll have 2 unique units and will also feature a unique technology that affects the entire team.W
Forgotten Empires has confirmed that the Berbers will enjoy their own campaign in the expansion and has promised to offer more information over the coming months.
Age of Empires 2: HD launched in 2013 and was based on the original 1999 real time strategy title. Hopefully we'll know more about the new expansion and the other civilisations which will be included over the coming months.
