Fatal Frame Creator Surprised Over Newfound Fan Feedback

October 26, 2021 by Dennis Patrick

Remastered Edition is coming this week.

There are a ton of great classic survival horror games out there. Unfortunately, a few of them haven’t held up with new installments. One big one that comes to mind is Silent Hill. It’s a game franchise that you can label as survival horror and psychological horror. Unfortunately, despite an extensive fan base and love of the IP, we haven’t seen Konami reveal a new game. Then there’s Fatal Frame which has had a long hiatus.

We haven’t received a new installment after the 2014 release of Fatal Frame Maiden of the Black Water. However, that Wii U exclusive has already been unveiled that a remastered edition was coming. Fortunately, it’s a game that’s coming to multiple console platforms along with the PC. Despite being initially released on the less-than-stellar console platform, there’s a significant fan base itching to get their hands on this game. It’s such a positive reception so far that the creator behind the franchise is even surprised.

Makoto Shibata recently had an interview with JP Games. He says that the reception so far with the upcoming Fatal Frame Maiden of the Black Water has exceeded the reception for both himself and the Koei Tecmo team. But, of course, this is the reception to the game that’s coming out. Player’s can’t pick up and enjoy the game right now. Fans might have also wondered if the positive reception would convince the studio to continue remastering the franchise or bringing out a new installment.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case. When pressed on the future of Fatal Frame, the creator, Makoto Shibata, said that they didn’t remaster Fatal Frame Maiden of the Black Water to make a new game. Still, that was the initial thought process for creating a remaster. With all this attention which could translate to big units being sold, perhaps that might sway the creator to give another installment a go. Currently, the Fatal Frame Maiden of the Black Water remaster release will come out on October 28, 2021, for the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
