Microsoft has today released Halo: Spartan Strike for Steam, Windows 8, and iOS devices.
The top-down shooter was originally due for release in December 2014 but was delayed due to the severe problems which affected Halo: The Master Chief Collection's multiplayer playlists and matchmaking. After months of major patches being released for the Collection, 343 has finally launched Spartan Strike.
The game sees players take on the role of a Spartan on New Mombasa during the events of Halo 2 and follows a similar template to its predecessor, Halo: Spartan Assault. In all players can expect around 30 missions. While Halo 2's story is generally considered a low point in the series, there's certainly plenty of potential there.
With improved touch controls and weekly challenges in the Windows 8 version, Halo: Spartan Strike is available for $5.99 on iOS, Steam, Windows 8, and Windows Phone 8. Spartan Assault was released on Xbox One as well, and Spartan Strike may also be available for console in future.
