The Great Ace Attorney Trailer Introduces Barock Van Siegs, Release Date Revealed

April 8, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

The historical courtroom drama will be more realistic than the addition of Sherlock Holmes initially made it seem.

The Japanese Nintendo Direct featured a new trailer for The Great Ace Attorney / Dai Gyakuten Saiban. Today, that trailer has been fansubbed for your viewing pleasure.

The trailer answers many of the questions raised by the initial reveals, including the unlikeliness of Sherlock Holmes working with protagonist Ryunosuke Naruhodo. Apparently, the more famous, older Holmes, narrates to Dr John Watson the events of the game, indicating this was a case he handled when he was younger.

Fitting its setting in the Meiji period, Naruhodo has to deal with the newly installed British court system in Japan, which requires the use of a jury. The six person jury will decide if a defendant is guilty or innocent, and if they all vote guilty, the trial can end then and there. Thankfully for Ryunosuke, he can still make use of the closing argument to attempt to sway any of the juror’s minds and get the trial to continue.

The trailer reveals new cast members as well. Alongside Ryunosuke, his assistant Susato Mikotoba, Holmes, and his assistant Iris Watson, are Kazuma Asogi, another young man studying to be an attorney, and Barock Van Siegs, an attorney known as the God of Death. Barock seems reminiscent of Manfred von Karma, and promises to be a similarly formidable opponent.

The Great Ace Attorney is releasing in Japan exclusively for Nintendo 3DS on July 9. You’ll really want to watch the trailer above to get a feel of the game.
