The terms of the PlayStation Vita settlement seem to have changed, based on the information revealed in the emails they sent consumers.
FTC claimed last November that Sony exaggerated on the console’s capabilities, to the extent that they were false or misleading. For example, features like Remote Play were only available for select games. The game Sony chose to advertise Remote Play – Killzone 3 on the Vita – didn’t actually work with the feature.
The settlement allows Sony to walk away from the FTC suit without confirming or denying the claims in the suit. Now, the original terms of the settlement last November promised consumers would get to choose between a $ 25 refund or $ 50 in select games or services.
The emails sent to consumers now give you these options:
· $ 25 cash
· $ 25 PlayStation Store credit
· A pick of three game bundles that individually exceed $ 50
o Unit 13 for Vita, and God of War Collection, Beyond Two Souls, and Twisted Metal for PS3
o Modnation Racers Roadtrip and Uncharted Golden Abyss for Vita, and Puppeteer and LittleBigPlanet 2 for PS3
o Modnation Racers Roadtrip and Unit 13 for Vita, and God of War Collection and LittleBigPlanet 2 for PS3
Once you accept one of these options, you will waive future rights to settlements. If you bought a Vita before July 1, 2012, you are eligible for the settlement. You can fill out the form to apply for a settlement here.
It would seem like it would stand to reason that Sony should have offered bundles with just Vita games, as some Vita owners do not have PlayStation 3 consoles. If you are a Vita owner, are you satisfied with the terms of the settlement? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
