Mario Kart 8: 200CC, Animal Crossing DLC Coming April 23

April 1, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

200CC will be the hardest Mario Kart has ever gotten, and it will be a free download.

Nintendo has confirmed the contents of Mario Kart 8’s upcoming Animal Crossing DLC in today’s Nintendo Direct, along with another surprise: 200CC.

For the DLC, we are getting three racers, the Animal Crossing Villager, Isabelle, and Dry Bones Bowser. They took the opportunity to show off a pink-haired female Villager, on top of the brown haired male Villager. Expect at least as much variety for selectable characters here as in the Villagers in Super Smash Bros for 3DS and Wii U.

There will be four vehicles, two of which have been revealed: the moped City Tripper and the stag beetle-like Streetle. There will be eight courses divided between the Crossing Cup and the Bell Cup. While we didn’t get names of the courses, we did see previews of some of them, with Animal Crossing characters cheering you from the sidelines.

The Animal Crossing DLC will be available on April 23 for $ 7.99. There will also be future unlockable outfits from Super Smash Bros amiibo, including 3rd party characters Pac-Man and Sonic.

Finally, Nintendo unveiled 200CC, an extra level of difficulty on top of 150CC. This is the first time Nintendo is offering 200CC in the Mario Kart series, and as you may guess,  it’ll be the hardest the game has been yet. As they say, braking will be essential. 200CC will also be releasing on April 23, as a free download so you don’t need to get the DLC along with it.
