The Silent Hills website no longer sports the Kojima Productions logo.
It is the latest twist in a strange saga that has left fans speculating that Kojima is set to leave Konami itself soon. We had earlier reported that the Kojima Productions name seemed set to be retired, and this seems to clinch the deal.
When asked, Konami simply reasserted their earlier statement that the company had switched to a headquarters based system, and that Kojima and his team would continue to make Metal Gear games. They also had no announcements regarding Silent Hills at this time.
There is, of course, another famous personage that figures in this. Guillermo Del Toro was taken on to collaborate with Kojima on Silent Hills, and the two scared many fans with the PT Demo they had released last year.
Guillermo had a prior video game project prior to Silent Hills. Insane was being developed by Volition and planned to be published by THQ, for Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. It was planned for release in 2013, but THQ cancelled the project on August 2012. At this time, THQ also cancelled Devil’s Third, and in the case of both games, reverted the rights back to their respective creators.
While Valhalla eventually bounced back with Devil’s Third with Nintendo, Guillermo has yet to announce a publisher for Insane, although he was apparently still interested in making it. Thus far, PT Demo is the only published game with Guillermo’s involvement.
I’m sure many fans, like me, where hoping Silent Hills would be an opportunity for Guillermo to learn the ropes from Kojima, prior to Konami publishing Insane themselves.
