Have you missed talking about Super Smash Bros for 3DS and Wii U? Sakurai hasn’t forgotten you.
In a recent livestream, Sakurai spoke candidly about Super Smash Bros development. He explained that his team finally finished work on free DLC character Mewtwo. Fans should simply wait for the official announcement.
Sakurai also talked about other potential playable characters. He confirmed that he is well aware of the outlandish requests for characters that fans have, including the likes of Son Goku and Spongebob Squarepants. Of course, Sakurai already explained before that he added Mii Fighters as a way for people to bring in whichever characters they want, and many fans have done just that.
There is one character who could have made the cut, and instead ended up being a mere Assist Trophy in the game. Samurai apprentice Takamaru, star of Nazo no Murasame-jo / The Mysterious Murasame Castle, almost became playable. Ultimately, Sakurai decided that Takamaru just isn’t well known enough.
If it means anything, this is actually a positive sign that Takamaru could eventually become playable in a future Smash Bros. Pit from Kid Icarus went through the very same thing; languishing in obscurity, making a guest appearance in Super Smash Bros Melee, and then becoming a playable character in Super Smash Bros Brawl, before coming into his own with a new game in Kid Icarus Uprising on the 3DS.
The Mysterious Murasame Castle was just released in English on the 3DS for the first time, so a remake or sequel could be in the works.
Would you like to see a The Mysterious Murasame Castle sequel, or a playable Takamaru in a future Smash Bros? What about other potential playable characters from untouched Nintendo games? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
