Hearthstone is coming to the iPhone and Android, Blizzard has confirmed. The mobile version of the game will be fully compatible with its counterparts on the PC, Mac, Android tablet, and iPad.
Eric Dodds, one of the game's principal designers, revealed that the game would require a persistent connection (like WiFi) due to its always-online connection policy. The game may eat up a lot of data on phones, but Blizzard doesn't know exactly how much.
“I don't know if it uses a lot of data," said Dodds in an interview with GameSpot. “You have to have a constant connection though. I wouldn't recommend playing it on a train.”
A screenshot of Hearthstone on the iPhone can be seen below. To maximize the visibility of minions and cards, the UI has been rebuilt from the ground-up with a lot of background details omitted.
The company has not revealed when it plans to release Hearthstone for the mobile, but it'll probably be sometime after the game's next adventure, Blackrock Mountain, comes out.
