Call of Duty: Vanguard Finally Shows Off Zombie Mode

October 14, 2021 by Carley Garcia

There’s just something about killing the undead…

Back in August, Activision announced that the much-beloved Zombies mode would be returning in Call of Duty: Vanguard, and would be developed by Treyarch. The reveal trailer is finally here, and in typical CoD fashion, it’s filled with Nazi zombies hungry for every inch of your character’s flesh after being called out of the ground by a captain named Von List. Luckily, our guy has a trick this time around–players will utilize “Dark Aether” skills to shove those undead bastards back into the grave where they belong.

Check out the new trailer:

Additionally, we know some more details thanks to a Treyarch blog post. Vanguard Zombies will reveal more about how entities from the Dark Aether dimension have made contact with humans for centuries and will give players a better sense of what happened before the events at Projekt Endstation. Vanguard will tell the story of this incident, beginning when a dimensional breach activates certain artifacts in the Nazi’s grasp, giving SS commander Wolfram Von List an opportunity to chat with a lord of the Dark Aether. Having a big demon buddy on your side in the middle of a global war seems pretty handy, and the man thinks that he can use this connection to win World War II for the Third Reich. Clearly, there are plenty of reasons to not let this happen.

Players will be able to teleport to different areas to complete certain objectives, and the new Altar of Covenants perk system will be introduced.

Call of Duty: Vanguard will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on November 5, 2021. Zombies mode will feature full-cross play capability across different console generations, meaning no one gets left behind. We can only imagine what this spooky mode will look like in the future, given that the Vanguard writers are interested in making two more games.
