Sony has announced that the online play of its PlayStation Network service will be open to everyone on the PlayStation 4 this weekend, regardless of whether they own a subscription to PlayStation Plus.
The free weekend will last from 12:01am PT on Friday, March 20 through 11:59pm PT on Sunday, March 22. For the duration, all multiplayer features will be unlocked for free. A PlayStation Plus subscription, which costs $49.99 a year, is normally required for online play.
The promotion comes just in time for the launch of Visceral Games and Electronic Arts’ Battlefield Hardline, which comes out tomorrow, March 17. Like all Battlefield games, most of its draw comes from its multiplayer component.
I’d reckon EA worked out a deal with Sony for the free multiplayer weekend rather than it just being a coincidence.
