Square Enix has confirmed in numerous interviews that development on Final Fantasy 15 is winding down. In fact, it seems likely now that the game will be seeing release before 2015 ends.
Of course, the sooner they finish Final Fantasy 15, the sooner they can go all-in on production on Kingdom Hearts 3. While it’s certainly true that Kingdom Hearts 3 is still in the preliminary stages of development, once the grunt work of building up the game’s graphics, engine, etc has started, Square will want all hands on deck.
Of course, there is also a lot of pressure on Square Enix to release Final Fantasy 15, which has spent more than a decade in development. Square has worked hard to reassure fans that the game will be great, in different previews and talks around the world. While the pressure to rush may be winding down on the team, it seems most likely that Square Enix cut the scope of the project so that they could make a deadline and finally get the game out. Their reputation, and the future of Final Fantasy, rests on this game, so the last thing they want, or will, do is to delay it further.
