Super Mario Gold Amiibo is Exclusive to Wal-Mart

A special Amiibo turns out to be even more exclusive.

If you're not familiar with Nintendo's Amiibo product line, just think of Skylanders or Disney: Infinity. You buy figurines of your favorite characters that then become playable inside the game world. Nintendo announced this morning that a special, gold Super Mario Amiibo will soon be available for purchase. While there were reports of this coming out of the woodwork since last week, the confirmation only comes now.

Along with this news comes the revelation that this Super Mario figure will be exclusive to Wal-Mart, running you about $12.96 at the cash register. This particular Amiibo releases alongside Mario Party 10 on March 12, 2015. There will also be two other Mario-centric Amiibo released on the same day, though they are not quite as swanky as the gold counterpart. One of these is based on the classic 'fireball' design from the original Mario games, while the other takes on a newer 'wave' design.
