Valhalla Studios director Tomonobu Itagaki had a very interesting response when asked about the release date for Devil’s Third.
He was asked if the game would be coming on the 1st or second half of 2015. Itagaki’s response? It’s still a secret.
Itagaki followed this up by saying that he does feel for the fans who want to know. However, he wants the fans to understand Nintendo’s PR strategies, and also to believe in them.
Itagaki’s comments strike me as interesting, because it seems like he already knows when the game will be released. Otherwise, Itagaki would not be confident in saying that fans should trust Nintendo. Although Itagaki remains tight lipped, we may have clues that could help shed light on when Nintendo plans to release the game.
The first clue is the release schedule for Wii U games for 2015 (focusing on North America, the biggest market). Following Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, we have two Mario games coming this March, Splatoon this May, and then Yoshi’s Wooly World and Project Giant Robot for the 1st half of the year (anytime between now to June). And then, there are six titles for this year, including Devil’s Third, aside from SMT x FE, which remains undated.
The other clue is the release of Wii U’s last major 3rd party exclusives. The Wonderful 101 was released in September 15, 2013, and Bayonetta 2 on October 24, 2014.
So, it seems highly likely that Devil’s Third will release at the latter half of 2015, in fact, around Q4 2015 in September. Nintendo probably wants to keep it at a distance from Splatoon, and also not have it compete with other high profile games this holiday, but close enough that folks will consider it as a preholiday purchase.
