Capcom has revealed that Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate has gone past 3 million units worldwide.
This number includes retail, download card sales, and Nintendo eShop sales. Capcom did not provide a breakdown by region, but it seems likely that the game sold over 250,000 units in the West, so the majority of those sales still come from Japan.
For context’s sale. Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii sold roughly 750,000 units, andMonster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the 3DS sold 900,000 units. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate just released in North America and Europe on February 13, and in Australia the day after, so there’s a lot of potential that it will match or exceed lifetime sales for the other games.
Those 2 million plus units sold in Japan accumulated since October last year, so there was more than enough time for game sales to tally up as well.
As further sign of the game’s success, the game reached the number four slot of UK sales charts, with sales that were 95 percent higher than those of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate when it launched.
The developer may be uncertain about many future games, but this is one franchise it has been able to rely on the past few years. Fortunately, Capcom isn’t abandoning fans of some other core IPs, such as Resident Evil or Street Fighter, but they may continue to be reliant onMonster Hunter as their most stable source of income in the coming years.
