Telltale Games, the makers of the Game of Thrones adventure game and The Walking Dead, are working on an all new IP that they’ve yet to announce, but are more than happy to talk about.
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, the company’s new CEO Kevin Bruner talked about the challenges the company faces in developing a new intellectual property.
“I’ll say we’ve spent a lot of time experimenting over the last decade with how powerful a storytelling tool interactive can be and when we thought about building something from the ground up that gave us absolutely everything we could dream of as storytelling tools,” said Bruner.
“The right kind of story, the right kind of setting, the right kind of people involved, everything.”
Unlike previous games, which were based on preexisting IPs, their new IP rose “organically” within the studio itself.
“It’s probably the most ambitious thing the company has ever done but we feel like we’re ready for it. We’re very excited to talk about it, but we can’t say much more right now. But it is the perfect thing for us.”
The developer talks about how the studio takes a “Story first” approach to game development, unlike other studios, which tend to develop their games’ mechanics before touching upon the story.
