Have you been receiving more spam in your Xbox Live inbox than usual? Microsoft is aware of this issue and has released a statement promising to clamp down on spam, following a reported increase in spam messages by users of the service.
Xbox’s Mike Ybarra stated on Twitter (via IGN) that the company is currently aware and working on the issue, adding that reporting spam messages will be “made a lot easier in the UI” starting next month.
Ybarra urged Xbox Live users to report spam messages, but advised those receiving excessive spam messages to select the “friends only” option for receiving messages in their privacy settings.
Following these tweets, Microsoft released an official statement about the spam problem. It reads:
“Microsoft allows Xbox Live accounts to send a limited number of messages every day to other users, and we are aware that some accounts are using this functionality to deliver spam messages. We are continuously working on ways to prevent the spread of spam messaging to our users through a variety of methods including removal of these accounts. We encourage members to report inappropriate messages by following the guidance on enforcement.xbox.com.”
In the meantime, you can file a message complaint by following the steps listed on the Xbox Live website here.
