Super Smash Bros. Wii U Might be Getting a Dr. Mario Themed Stage

January 28, 2015 by Jacob Saylor

Dr. Mario may be on the way!

A few very avid fans have done some data mining on recent Nintendo hit, Super Smash Bros Wii U. In their efforts, they have discovered some unused texture packs that may have some very interesting implications in future downloadable content packages.

The three viruses pictured below originate from the 1990 release Dr. Mario. Currently, they are used to denote the lives of each participant in a game of Smash. Though, why would a higher-resolution, more recent picture of the three viruses be sitting within the code of Super Smash Bros Wii U?

The smart bet is that Nintendo plans to use these three viruses in a Dr. Mario themed level at some point. That said, they could just be remnants of a long-lost development plan that Nintendo never followed through on. Dr. Mario was a massive cult hit, and we're sure that fans would be very eager to get their paws on anything pertinent to it.

Here's to hoping Nintendo makes this happen.
