NightCry Is A Dream Team Horror Game Kickstarter, With People From Clock Tower, Ju-On, And More

January 24, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

The dev team is a veritable who’s who of Japanese horror, gaming, film, and music.

One of the forefathers of the horror genre has gone to Kickstarter for his big comeback. Introducing Hifumi Kono’s Project Scissors, AKA, NightCry.

NightCry is a point and click adventure horror game, originally planned for iOS, Android, and Vita, but now possibly hitting the PC, and other platforms. Kono has assembled a superstar team to help realize this game:

·         Takashi Shimizu, noted horror filmmaker best known for both the JapaneseJu-On films, and its American counterpart series, The Grudge,

·         Masahiro Ito, who designed creatures in the Silent Hill games,

·         Kyoshi Arai, Final Fantasy, 3, 7 and 14, Temchu 2, andBloodmasque concept artist,

·         Nobuko Toda, Halo 4 and Metal Gear Solid composer,

·         Michiru Yamane, Castlevania composer,

·         Shinki Aramaki, mecha designer best known for Bubblegum Crisis and Robotech Mospeada, but also designing for Sonic Unleashed, Tekken, Halo Legends and Steel Battalion 2.

For those who are unfamiliar with Hifumi Kono, he was with Japanese developer Human when he worked on Clock Tower for SNES and WonderSwan in 1995, and Clock Tower 2 a year later for PlayStation (not to be confused with Clock Tower 2: The Struggle Within). Between the two games, Kono set conventions for Japanese horror gaming, for 2D and 3D games alike. He went on to join Nude Maker, best known for Steel Battalion on the Xbox and Infinite Space on Nintendo DS.

It should be noted that Takashi Shimizu actually has a background in video games before he became famous, on Sega polygonal fighter Last Bronx: Tokyo Bangaichi.

As developer Nude Maker, the team decided to go to Kickstarter after receiving a huge clamor from their Tokyo Game Show preview to bring the game to more platforms than was originally planned. The $ 300,000 funding goal will go to expanding the scope of development correspondingly.

The game will have exploration and escape segments, but you may not want to get more spoilers than this. If you are curious, you can watch a video short Takashi Shimizu made for the game below. You can help fund NightCry here.
