After Duke Nukem Forever's release, the game was critically panned; mainly due to complaints about the game playing like a last-generation title. Publisher Take Two, however, has said despite the negative reviews, the game was still profitable for the company.
Take Two Interactive's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, stated:
Despite its disappointing reviews, Duke Nukem Forever was profitable for Take-Two.
Duke Nukem Forever, developed by Borderlands developer Gearbox Software, was in development for an accumulative of 14 years. The game's first downloadable content, Hail to the Icons Parody Pack, will be available across multiple platforms this autumn.
