You may remember that last month, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto did a small US YouTube tour, appearing on several Nintendo-focused channels to play games and answer questions. One of the groups he met was Smosh, which only just uploaded the get-together yesterday.
After a couple of rounds in Mario Kart 8, the Smosh crew picked Miyamoto's brain, asking what he enjoys doing whenever he's in the US (checking out Off-Broadway shows in New York) or what Nintendo character he would love to be (Yoshi). He didn't have anything particularly mind-blowing to share about the current games in development, but he did say — as translated by of Nintendo of America's Senior Product Marketing Manager, Bill Trinen — an interesting bit about the current development stage of The Legend of Zelda on Wii U:
It's at the point now where every idea that we have for it we're able to implement into the game right away, so it's at a really fun stage of development.
The takeaway here is that the pipeline is streamlined enough that significant additions can quickly be made, thereby increasing the game's potential. Good news for fans waiting until E3 to hear more substantial updates!
On a different note, Miyamoto also mentioned that if Nintendo were to work on a new F-Zero, it would be when the team comes up with a "new type of controller interface" that felt appropriate for the style of game. I personally don't see what the big quiz is — there are sticks and buttons on the GamePad, yes? Shouldn't that be enough? What could a touch screen bring to F-Zero?
