EA DICE is facing dissent from within, as their own fans – specifically the online community under forum WeAreBattlefield – are planning to take their Battlefield 4 servers offline in protest.
This is a coalition of 50 clans, who will shut down their servers this coming Saturday, January 3. To be clear, this is not a hack of EA's own servers, but a protest action from fans who have set up their own servers, and by doing so, kept the German Battlefield 4 community active and relevant.
This seems to be a group based in Germany, who have a set of complaints about how DICE has been treating them in the past few months.
The group has enumerated these concerns:
· DICE plays politics with ranked servers
· Patches are released without notification or warning
· Patchnotes come too late
· Inconsistent servers
· Server restrictions, such as idle timeout, max vehicle spawn delay, etc.
· No control on number of vehicles/classes/weapons per match
· Community divided thanks to premium
· No administration for official preset
· No admin-only spectator
· Difficulty fighting cheating
· Admins contact DICE via CTE forums but are ignored
· General unhappiness with changes made to the game
To be clear, WeAreBattlefield do not expect to get everything they want EA DICE immediately, so they are not being unrealistic. Their goal is simply to gain the developer’s attention, and hopefully get action on some of these issues, and/or some lines of communication going.
While some of the points of contention WeAreBattlefield bring up seem debatable, this really pops up as another concern with Battlefield 4 in a very late hour.
