Sony has revealed that PlayStation network is back online, although some fans are still experiencing issues logging in.
PSN went offline, along with XBL, on Christmas day, and it took several hours for Microsoft to bring their online services back up, butSony needed a few days more. While a hacker group, Lizard Squad, took credit for the attack, neither Sony nor Microsoft have acknowledged them as theculprits directly.
This also comes in the context of a recent hack on PlayStation’s sister company, Sony Pictures. Rather than take down their onlineservices,
Sony declared their PSN services back as of today, but there are still users who cannot access their profile, visit the store, or use theservice for multiplayer. For now, the official PlayStation Twitter support account recommends that users reboot the console. This is not guaranteed to work, but is being suggested as a temporary workaround.
This is the 2nd holiday in a row that PSN and XBL have been subject of outages, both also being the first two holidays thePlayStation 4 and Xbox One have been released. While continuing issues will not necessarily lead to a slowdown in PS4 and Xbox One units or games, there may beother pernicious consequences. For example, PSN and XBL subscriptions may drop, as users lose faith in Sony’s and Microsoft’s security measures for theironline services.
What do you think Sony and Microsoft should do to keep these issues from repeating next holiday? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
