Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse Wii U Version Arrives on Christmas

Port of 3DS release includes Off-TV and multiple controller support.

The last chapter in the Shantae handheld trilogy dropped onto 3DS a couple months ago, but developer WayForward always had plans to bring the game to the Wii U audience later down the line. In a press release sent out last night, we finally have a date: December 25, 2014. That's right! It's a Christmas surprise!

When WayForward brought Mighty Switch Force! to Wii U, it swapped out all the pixel sprites for hi-res art. When Mighty Switch Force! 2 got ported to Wii U, however, it retained the blocky graphics. Pirate's Curse unfortanately falls into the latter camp, but at the very least the cutscene character portraits — which were provided by Mega Man Zero developer Inti Creates, by the way — will be hi-res. You'll also get the opportunity to play Off-TV or swap the GamePad out for a Wii Classic Controller or Wii U Pro Controller.

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse will hit the Wii U eShop on Christmas for $19.99, same price as the 3DS version.
