The Forza games are known for their beauty, attention to detail and quality gameplay. They are frequently compared to Sony's monolith franchise, Gran Turismo. There are many who would argue that Forza, which finds its home on Xbox consoles, is actually better than Gran Turismo. There's one thing that's certain: Forza certainly gets around more, as the last Gran Turismo game came out in 2013 to little fanfare. Before that, there wasn't a peep from the franchise since the series' fifth iteration in 2010. While Forza may have had one more game released in this time frame, the franchise's developer has provided more sturdy post-launch support. In an age where developers are releasing games before they are even finished, this has become an invaluable tool.
Xbox's latest Forza addition comes in the form of Forza Horizon 2. As it turns out, they'll be looking to add downloadable content to the game here very soon, which comes in the form of Storm Island. Players will have to ride through wildnerness roads and other unforgiving terrain in an effort to beat out their competitors. This expansion reminds us a lot of Sony's Motorstorm, but there's no trademark placed on off road racing. It'll be interesting to see what Forza's developers can do with a new perspective racing environments; especially since Forza has been a series that places realism above all else. If it looks to channel the spirit of the aforementioned Motorstorm in any way, then there will have to be a lot of changes made for the downloadable content package, though this is doubtful.
Storm Island is out today.
