We were told back in September that the demo for Final Fantasy XV would likely only be avaible to those who purchased Type-0 HD. That remains true, although now there is a very big caveat: Only first-run copies of Type-0 HD will include the demo.
Square Enix Associate Product Marketing Manager, Scott Strichart, broke the news on the PlayStation Blog, where he also revealed a $99.99 collector's edition for Type-0 HD. The set includes the game, a 15-song soundtrack sampler, a 200-page manga, an 80-page art book, and replicas of five cards that protagonist Ace is often shown holding, all inside a SteelBook case. Naturally, you'll also have guaranteed access to the Final Fantasy XV demo as well.
The fact that the demo is restricted to Type-0 buyers is bad enough in this age of digital distribution, but to then limit it only to early adopters seems rather unfair. And Square Enix does it because it knows it can get away with it as long as the Final Fantasy brand continues to be popular. All I can say is, make sure you've got your wallet ready at a moment's notice if you are among those fans.
Final Fantasy Type-0 HD arrives for PS4 and Xbox One on March 17, 2015.
