Elegy for a Dead World is the Game for the Budding Writer in Your Life

December 10, 2014 by Stephen Daly

It beats starring blankly at a Word document waiting for inspiration at least.

Elegy for a Dead World from Dejobaan Games has just been released for Windows, Mac, and Linux on Steam and costs $15.

The game's interesting core concept is to encourage players to write their own stories influenced by the locations they visit and the characters they meet with the game.

Elegy is also one of a relatively small number of games to be crowdfunded, finished, and released, with the title raising 150 per cent of its funding target on Kickstarter earlier this year.

In a press release, Dejobaan commented "In Elegy, you'll travel to three worlds and write stories about their long-dead societies. You’ll lose yourself in settings inspired by the works of poets Keats, Byron, and Shelley, and use the game's system of writing prompts to help create your own masterpieces."

The game allows players to share their stories on Steam Workshop, read the work of others, and recommend favourites.

Dejobaan claims that numerous educational institutions are using the game to help their English-as-a-second-language students express themselves creatively.
