As if this whole shortage situation in the UK wasn't bad enough, here comes another round of anti-consumer behavior. Apparently, the amiibo are incredibly popular across the pond — did anyone honestly think these figurines wouldn't be? — and that has led at least one store chain to raise prices on the hot items. UK retailer GAME has decided to raise the price of each amiibo to £14.99 (roughly $23.50) from the launch price of £11.99 (just under $19), which was already more expensive than what they were running for at other retailers.
How could GAME do this? Because Nintendo doesn't impose standard prices, leaving retailers to price the products however they see fit. But we already have shortages of the GameCube adapter and third-party re-sellers trying to gouge honest folks, and now this happens. Way to take advantage of people.
For my UK friends looking for amiibo, please shop anywhere else other than GAME.
