Bungie has confirmed and explained why they do not plan to add matchmaking to raids for Destiny.
While they recognize that there is a clamor for this from fans, they explain that raids are simply not designed for this. They would prefer for fans to feel this way with the modes that were meant to be competitive. Of course, the raids require a lot of strategy and thinking on your feet, and Bungie believes that this is what is compelling fans to come in, and is the source of this fan demand.
They aren’t closed minded on adding LFGlike mechanics to the game in the future, that would allow fans to let other players know they want to go on raid. However, here and now, Bungie has no plans to add raid matchmaking to Destiny.
