What can you expect to see in the The Game Awards this week? We have collected everything that has been teased and confirmed thus far, for your perusal:
· Confirmed Reveals:
o 12 world premieres
This comes directly from TGAs host and organizer Geoff Keighley himself. As you can see below, some developers have already confirmed and even spoiled what they will be showing off.
o EA
This is the most recent announcement, and comes from no less than EA chief Peter Moore. He just confirmed on Twitter that he will be in the event with Geoff, and that he will have a special announcement.
o Bloodborne
o The Order 1886
Keighley revealed both these games will have a presence in The Game Awards, leading up to the PlayStation Experience immediately after.
o King’s Quest
A new King’s Quest will be revealed in the event alongside a tribute to the founders of recently revived developer, Sierra.
o Metal Gear Online
Keighley also confirmed in a later tweet that Hideo Kojima will go on stage to premiere a new Metal Gear Online. We don’t know quite yet if this will be a remake of the original or a completely new game.
· Possible Reveals:
o Naughty Dog game
This tease comes from the studio’s creative director, Neil Druckmann. Without giving anything away, he shared that they will have a sneak peek for something on the event. Neil, however, did not elaborate if it was something from their studio, so he may be referring to either The Order or Bloodborne reveals.
o Tetsuya Nomura
Keighley revealed in a livestream that Nomura would be in attendance in the event. This does not necessarily mean that Nomura will be on stage with to reveal something, but of course, developers are expected to be in the event. The fact that Keighley went out of his way to reveal him appears to be a clue to something.
o Nintendo
Nintendo has made no indication they will reveal anything on the event. However, compared to the show’s predecessors, Nintendo seems invested in it, and in fact, Keighley brought NOA head Reggie Fils-Aime in as a member of the show’s advisory board.
Last year, Nintendo did make what seemed to be a very limited appearance, showing off Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, but staying tight lipped on games like Hyrule Warriors, which they revealed in a Direct later that December. Nintendo is stepping away from using only Directs to promote themselves, so they may be looking at this event as a good place for a new reveal.
· No Reveals:
o Bethesda
We already reported this earlier, but Bethesda has gone on record to state that they have no reveals. They will be at the event to support Wolfenstein New Order dev Machine Games.
o Xbox
This comes from Xbox marketing lead Aaron Greenberg on Twitter. Interestingly enough, Xbox head Phil Spencer is also in the event’s advisory board. It may simply be the case that Microsoft has nothing new slated at this time.
