PlayStation 4 20th Anniversary Limited Edition Revealed

December 3, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

The special edition features the colors of the original PlayStation and only 12,000 units will be made.

Sony has unveiled a special edition PlayStation 4, in celebration of the console’s 20th anniversary.

The original PlayStation was released on December 3, 1994, and represented Sony’s entry into the gaming sphere, as part of the fifth generation of consoles. You can watch our video explaining how Sony and Nintendo’s rivalry was inextricably connected to the console here.

The special edition PlayStation 4 brings back the original console’s grey hues, and brightly colored PlayStation logo, now on the right side of the bar.  Below the bar are small etchings of the number 2, followed by the characteristic circle, x, square and triangle that refer to the face buttons of the controller.

Finally, on the bottom right of the console is a plate showing what number of the console you have. Only 12,000 copies of this console will be made.

The console will also be bundled with its own vertical stand, and a special edition of the PlayStation Camera and the DualShock 4. The DualShock 4’s casing is grey ,with black buttons, and the four face buttons show the original color scheme. The touchpad also has etchings of the number two and the controller symbols. Lastly, the PlayStation Camera has the same grey color scheme, and the original logo on the right end.

PS4: 20th Anniversary Edition will be available for preorder starting December 6, with details to be revealed in the upcoming PlayStation Experience keynote.

A New Retro PlayStation theme has also popped up for free download for Europe, for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. This will probably release in the rest of the world as well.
