Gaming can be a wonderful place for escapism from the real world's issues or a nightmare fueled by harassment and sexual stereotyping. Anita Sarkeesian's Feminist Frequency has posted a new video on its YouTube channel highlighting 25 advantages of males have while gaming compared to their female counterparts.
Describing these advantages as "invisible benefits", the video makes the point that members of privilaged groups are rarely aware of the privilages they're afforded.
Some of the examples given include: choosing to remain oblivious, or ignorant, of the harassment many women face in gaming, never being told that video games, or the culture which surround the activity, is not meant for males, posting contact details, online IDs, and gamertags online without fear of being stalked or harassed, and never being asked to prove their gamer cred on the basis that they are male.
Whether or not you agree with the video, it highlights some of the struggles women who game face daily, which men are virtually never, if at all, contronted with.
