WWE 2K15: CM Punk Confirms 2K Gave Him “A Big Fat Check”

November 28, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

The outspoken former professional wrestler did not mince words about the WWE, or 2K Sports’ tweet to him.

CM Punk has finally spoken up on his departure on the WWE. Along the way, Punk confirmed that he made a deal in regards to his appearance in WWE 2K15.

Real name Phil Brooks, the former professional wrestler revealed in a podcast that he was actually fired by the WWE, and he did not quit or go on sabbatical, as the company claimed. The circumstances of his firing were distressing, as CM alleges the WWE did not pay him his true worth, his health was not taken care of, he had a long misdiagnosed staph infection that could have killed him, and he had an acrimonious relationship with his bosses regarding career direction.

While the events Phil referred to unraveled, he sent the WWE a legal letter regarding his appearance in 2K Sports’ upcoming video game WWE 2K15. Back then, we speculated that WWE was scaring Phil with a possible lawsuit, but based on Phil’s account, he was the one owed to by the company, and they knew it.

In the podcast, Phil revealed he thought it was dumb of WWE to not just use Phil's likeness, but to advertise him for the video game. He also brought up 2K Sports’ tweet to Phil, asking him, “do I have your attention now?” Phil then thanked the developer for giving him “a big fat check”.

You can read a rundown of Phil’s tell-all account here. Suffice to say, he won't be appearing in a future WWE game, if any wrestling videogame, in the future.
