EA's chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen has stated that Microsoft "is catching up quickly" on Sony in comments transcribed by Gamasutra.
During an address at the UBS Global Technology Conference, Jorgensen remarked "Clearly Sony has jumped out to a lead with a great console and I think a great pricing strategy, [but] Microsoft is catching up quickly" on the PS4.
He added that the Xbox One price cut has given Microsoft a much needed sales boost, "… pricing actions that are taking place, particularly during this Christmas season, driven by Microsoft, around reduction plus a lot of bundled software, I think will continue to pull the consumer into the new consoles."
Jorgensen believes that the installed base for current-gen consoles will be "north of 25 million" by the end of the year. His remarks follow comments from SCEA president Shawn Layden, who suggested the PS4 has a 2-to-1 advantage over the Xbox One in a recent interview with GamesBeat.
Layden noted,"The math seems to look like that."
As of October 31st, 13.5 million PS4s had been shipped to retailers with 10 million sold by August. By contrast, 10 million Xbox One systems were shipped by November 12th, and while Microsoft confirmed that the console outsold the PS4 in the U.S. for the last two weeks of October, Sony took the NPD crown for the 10th consecutive month. Microsoft has not revealed current sales numbers for the Xbox One.
