The Division’s Specifications won’t be Lowered for Consoles

November 7, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

The Division will maximize its potential on the PC, according to one developer.

Martin Hultberg of Massive Entertainment, developers of Tom Clancy's: The Division has recently spoken in an interview about whether or not the game would be dumbed down on PC due to consoles holding it back. Hultberg dismissed these rumors quickly, stating that each version of the game would be made to maximize its respective platform. Considering the Playstation 4 and Xbox One are made of some pretty powerful technology, we're not quite sure what exactly people are worried about.

“Downgrading is a weird term to use,” Hultberg said in an interview with Open World Games. “Obviously, we want to make a game that looks the best it can on its respective format; so Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. So I think the term downgrade is a bit confusing and weird because we’re trying to get the utmost out of every machine we use. So Xbox gets its attention, PlayStation gets its attention, and PC, of course, we’ll be able to cram it up a bit more depending on the hardware you have. We address every console, every platform, as its own version, so we try to stay away from the thing where you go for the least common denominator, and everybody suffers for it.”

This 'common denominator' seems to be pretty common in video games as of late, with countless titles being made as ports of another. A game is qualified as a port when it is made specifically for one platform, then modified to be played on another.

Hultberg was stoic in saying, "We want to make a good experience on all respective formats.”
