Star Citizen is a game that looks to break the mold of traditional game development. What began as a simple Kickstarter project has grown into a game that fans are eagerly anticipating. Slated for release in 2016, the game is riding a very early hype train, as the idea of a "space trading and combat simulator" has fans extremely invested in the idea.
The game's creator and mastermind, Chris Roberts, recently spoke with ABC News 24 about crowdfunding, the game and its development.
"Well, I was actually hoping to do around 2 to 4 million on crowdfunding," explains Roberts. "Just to prove to investors that there was a viable game there, and I thought I'd need around 14 to 20 million to make the game."
"So I thought 'OK, well if I can raise 4 million with crowdfunding, then I could raise the rest with private investment,' and the response was amazing,' said Roberts. "So, we already did way more for the initial period and we continue to do that, so there was a certain point where we didn't need outside investors, we can just make it with the backing of the crowd. So, that's what we've been doing and I'm really thankful that they've let us do that."
Roberts then goes on to discuss what Star Citizen really is and just how it will operate compared to other games. The news correspondent makes a valid assumption in that Star Citizen is a game that is likely seeing so much success because it differs so much from other games currently out right now. There's no other title offering the same experience, and we're all excited to get our hands on it.
