Rational thought dictates that Activision's Skylanders would have started dying down in popularity by now. Sure, it's become a billion-dollar franchise for the company, but you can only flood the market with plastic figures for so long before the people lose interest. However, if these results from Activision's third quarter 2014 financial briefing are to be believed, that fateful day is still a long way out.
Among other pieces of news, including how Destiny currently has 9.5 million registered users, Activision trumpted the performance of last year's Skylanders: Swap Force:
In North America and Europe combined, for the first nine months of 2014, Activision Publishing's Skylanders SWAP Force was the #4 best-selling console and handheld game overall in dollars, and in North America and Europe, Skylanders toys outsold the #1 action figure line.
The statement didn't mention what the #1 action figure line is, but when you think about it, it doesn't really matter. The truth is that Skylanders figures are still among the hottest items in toy stores and should continue to perform well in the foreseeable future, especially now that Skylanders: Trap Team is out along with a new set of characters.
I guess this explains why Eruptor has a Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade float, yes?
