The Evil Within PC Update Adds 60 FPS Cap Option, Among Other Features

October 30, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

The Evil Within will be getting a brand new update soon.

The Evil Within released just a couple of weeks ago to some really positive reviews. Though the game features a pretty blistering difficulty level, it's no less a very creepy survival horror game. The Evil Within has been touted as one of the best horror games of this generation. That might not be saying much, considering we're only months into this console cycle, but there has been some hard-fought competition with the likes of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Outlast.

With the game having been out for a modicum of time now, it's time for the experience to adjust for the future. As gamers learn more about the title and technology improves, Tango Gameworks, who develop the title, will have to make some changes. They are already preparing with the latest patch for The Evil Within, which will feature a number of very important, new features. Most notable among these is the 60 frames per second cap. Previously, you were only able to utilize a thirty frames per second cap, which has generally been seen as the industry standard.

Here is the full list of changes coming in the next patch:

  • Frame lock settings added – In settings, you can now toggle between a 30 FPS and 60 FPS cap.
  • Letterbox setting – UI toggle to disable the letterbox bars
  • Fixes gameplay issues when running at 30 FPS
  • Fixes for visual issues associated with removing letterbox framing
  • Achievements now work when console is enabled
  • Fix for game starting in windowed mode on first run
  • Minor localization fixes
