Ubisoft has discreetly made a licensing deal with personal care product and safety razor manufacturer Edge Shave Gel for Assassin’s Creed Unity.
If you buy some specially marked Edge Shave Gel shaving cream cans, like those illustrated above, you can get a code (84105800520) for extra content for your game. This fan received a Spanish hilt rapier, Prussian waistcoat, and Leipzig regiment hood for his trouble.
He notes that there are other cans in different colors, and they may have different bonuses attached to them.
However, other fans who tried to use the same code received the message that they were ineligible. The prevailing theory is that the content is region locked, but it may just be as likely that they could not use a code that was redeemed already.
In any case, as others have pointed out, the two companies have actually had this licensing deal going for some years now. In fact, Dr. Pepper also has a licensing deal with Ubisoft for content as well. Some fans lament that Ubi does not advertise it more, but not everyone may agree with that assessment.
Do you think Ubisoft should advertise these deals more? Or would you rather not have to be exposed to these on top of the marketing they already do on gaming websites and outlets? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
Assassin’s Creed Unity will be released on November 11 on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
