Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition Coming October 30

October 22, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

The game brings compatibility with modern systems, as well as improvements across the board.

Originally announced at PAX, Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition will be released this coming October 30.

Beamdog Software’s Trent Oster revealed the news apropos of nothing on Twitter. He also revealed that the game will be available on Windows and OS X via Steam, GOGcom, and Beamdog’s own game client. Mobile versions will release soon afterwards as well.

Originally published in 2000, Icewind Dale is based on the Dungeons and Dragons Forgotten Realms campaign, and adapts rules from Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition. Much like other games of its time, it is an action RPG similar to Diablo, but this one allows you to use multiple characters in real time combat.

The upgrade comes courtesy of the new Infinity Plus Engine. Aside from compatibility with modern systems, the Enhanced Edition will come with an improved user interface, cross platform multiplayer, a new difficulty mode, six new quests, and new items, spells, and other game features.

Beamdog has yet to share system requirements,  but it is most probable that it will be playable on lower end modern PCs. You can preorder the game directly from Beamdog here.
