Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Will Have Dedicated Servers

October 21, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

The upcoming first-person shooter has had some details revealed.

Call of Duty often gets a bad rap for using the same formula over and over again. There's probably been an occasion or two that I have complained of its repetitiveness. If there's one thing other than repetitive motion injury that can come out of doing the same thing repeatedly, it is quality. They say it takes 10,000 hours to become a virtuoso at something, be it playing the piano or riding a bike. I wonder if the same could be said for game development. If so, then Call of Duty 3 developer is well on its way to mastering the art.

In a recent interview with Stevivor earlier this month, it was revealed that Advanced Warfare – which is the next iteration into the Call of Duty franchise – will have dedicated servers. While this does not strike us as particularly exciting news, it does mean that those of you interested in the franchise's multiplayer action will be able to enjoy it in its most optimized form. Furthermore, the fact that these servers are dedicated means that they should stay online for a long time. Activision, who publishes the game, will certainly budget themselves in a way that maximizes the time – and money – that people spend on the game.

Here's what Sledgehammer Games’ Michael Condrey had to say:

“We’ve got some announcements coming. Yes, we will be supporting dedicated servers and there will be announcements soon on which providers and platforms. I can’t answer just yet, but you can let your community know that it’s coming.”
