It's no secret by now that the 3DS version of the latest Smash is hindered by the platform's hardware. The tweaks necessary to get the game running properly have resulted in some unfortunate losses, but they have also been a blessing in other ways. It's ultimately a good thing that the 3DS version is how it is, because that means the Wii U version will be its own beast. And if this latest discovery of hidden data in the Smash 3DS ROM is any clue, what a beast it will be!
A few dedicated fans have uncovered a set of unused announcer voice clips — listen to them in the videos posted above and below — that mention a slew of modes and features that don't exist. Some clips seem like things that were left on the cutting room floor, like "Yellow Team" as a team color option or "The Champion Is…" as an alternative to the standard "The Winner Is…" victory declaration. Others suggest wild new modes that could exist, only not on the 3DS, like "8-Player Smash."
Here's the second video:

A user over on NeoGAF has suggested that these could very well be indicative of Wii U modes, his reason being that since the 3DS with a copy of Smash can be used as a controller for the home console version, the 3DS might play back Wii U-specific sound bites through its speakers. I wouldn't imagine that all of these clips represent features in the console game, but many of them sound plausible.
Like "8-Player Smash," for instance — the 3DS has trouble with showing too many characters on screen at once, an issue that the Wii U wouldn't have. "Event Match" is a mode from Melee in which you play special scenarios with specific rules and restrictions, and it would be awesome if it made a return after skipping Brawl and 3DS. And "Smash World" could easily be the console counterpart to "Smash Run" on 3DS.
Then there is "Boss Battle," which brings to mind something director Masahiro Sakurai said in a Nintendo Direct about several stages having "boss characters." We already know of the Yellow Devil in Dr. Wily's Castle, but none of the other stages in the 3DS version feature bosses as obstacles. It's been hinted that Ridley is the boss of the Wii U's Metroid stage, so it's likely that bosses are more of a feature of Wii U stages versus 3DS ones. In that case, "Boss Battle" could be a mode in which you fight the bosses without worrying about other fighters, possibly back-to-back like in Kirby Super Star's "The Arena."
We'll know for sure once Super Smash Bros. for Wii U arrives November 21.
