Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse Out on October 23

October 9, 2014 by Tony Ponce

The final episode in the trilogy will hit 3DS eShop for $19.99.

WayForward's Shantae series is not known for having the best timing. The original released on Game Boy Color around the time that Game Boy Advance was already rocking store shelves. The sequel, subtitled Risky's Revenge, went through a couple revisions and cutbacks before finally hitting DSiWare just before the 3DS arrived. And the last chapter in the trilogy, Pirate's Curse, was revealed on the cover of Nintendo Power the month before the magazine was canceled. But despite all the setbacks and ill timing, each game has been a gem on their respective platforms.

Now Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is ready for 3DS eShop. The date: October 23. The price: a stiff $19.99. Yes, that's a little more than you'd typically expect for a 3DS download, but knowing the quality of the previous installments, it'll likely be worth it. But if you are willing to wait a while, a Wii U port will drop at least a month later.

Though this wraps up the Shantae trilogy, it's not the end of our belly-dancing girl. The prequel Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is being prepared for Windows, PS4, PS3, PS Vita, Xbox One, and Xbox 360, in addition to Wii U.
